I saw the movie Moneyball on television, in which statistical methods are used to build a sports team instead of relying on the traditional “spend big” approach. This sparked my interest in applying statistical approaches to various phenomena encountered in everyday life, and at the time, I was also applying for admission to major-level studies in psychology.
In the end, statistical methods did not click with me to the extent required to secure a place in the program, but after completing the basic studies in statistics, I have a much deeper understanding of the different statistical ways of approaching various phenomena. I completed these basic-level studies at the Open University of the University of Helsinki between 2014 and 2015.
