I must say that sometimes you just get so happy in some places and with some people. Today I experienced something like that in a pretty new shop called Pertin Valinta in Vallila, Helsinki. I was cycling home from work, and suddenly saw a shop that attracted me at the first sight. So I decided to stop by.
They call the store as “sekotavarakauppa”, which means something like “nutcase-neral store”. The store is owned by the members of a famous Finnish punk band Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät, and there are two or even three parts in the store: the store itself, a gallery for outsider art and a media workshop for mentally handicapped people.
– The story of the shop was that when we retired from playing music, we wanted to create something. Soon the idea became clear about establishing a brick and mortar store, says one of the founders Sami Helle.
They keep organizing different kinds of events in the shop, and among other things you can find a lot of PKN products in the shop. I really recommend this shop for everyone interested in alternative style and straight to the point attitude. Go there!
The shop is located in Aleksis Kiven katu 48, and you get there by tram 9 from the Central Railway Station.
